Operation Northern Comfort set its goals high in the beginning. What began as a garage operation has exploded! A very generous Baldwinsville area lady offered the use of a workshop in her barn. An assembly line format was developed. In a short two months the goal has been surpassed. Over 500 desk requests have been received; as of this published date, almost 400 have been delivered. The generosity of the Central New York community has been realized as donations have arrived in response to media coverage and our internet presence.
Several other organizations have been provided “kits” of lumber and are producing desks on their own.
And just recently, a North Country volunteer of both Southern and Northern Comfort began a similar operation in the Elks Club of Massena. See accompanying photos.
While all the volunteers are rewarded with feelings of good will and accomplishment, it is the recipients of these desks who are benefiting with a place to do their school work. Away from the kitchen table and general distractions of the family, they have a place of their own to concentrate on their work.
